PALMA 19: ‘The most prominent Dutchman in Egypt’
Jan Herman Insinger and the Egyptian collection in Leiden
A famous demotic wisdom papyrus now in the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden is named after Jan Herman Insinger. He was an important person in het field of Egyptology, but not much had been written about him. Previous curator Maarten Raven has written a biography of Insinger based on archives in the National Museum of Antiquities and notes of his contemporaries. Not only his activities as photographer and traveller are being discussed but also his work as art collector and maecenas of the National Museum of Antiquities.
Papers on Archaeology of the Leiden Museum of Antiquities (PALMA) is a series of monographs by the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (Netherlands).
