Last summer, 69 archaeological objects from Iraq including terracotta sculptures, cylinder seals and clay tiles with cuneiform, were intercepted by Dutch customs from the illegal art circuit.
Archaeological richness and illegal art trade
The objects were handed over by Minister of culture Ronald Plasterk to the Dutch Ambassador of Iraq, who in his turn has loaned them to the National Museum of Antiquities. By displaying the objects, the museum seeks to present a picture of the archaeological richness of Iraq and to shed light on the problem of the illegal art trade.
