Lucien Bonaparte, Prince of Canino, started excavating in 1828 on his estate near the ancient Etruscan town of Vulci. 2000 Greek vases were unearthed of which the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden purchased 96 pieces after restoration. The articles in this book and included catalogue focuses on the Prince of Canino, his excavations, the restoration of the ceramics and the selling and buying of them in the 19th century.
