PALMA 25: Dorestad and its Networks
Communities, Contact and Conflict in Early Medieval Europe
In 2019 the quinquennial international congress based around Dorestad and its Networks was organised by the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden. In the Carolingian era Dorestad was the largest city of the Low Lands, located at present-day Wijk bij Duurstede. It was a junction between the Viking world and the Continent. New research on Dorestad, published in this English volume, focuses on the material culture of the Vikings in the city. Among others jewellery, swords, weaponry and glass are being discussed. Also, excavations at other Carolingian sites receive new attention. The research shows ‘international’ political, economical and cultural networks in the Early Middle Ages.
Papers on Archaeology of the Leiden Museum of Antiquities (PALMA) is a series of monographs by the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden (Netherlands).
