PALMA 14: Engraved Gems
From antiquity to the present
The collection of the National Museum of Antiquities includes more than 5800 engraved gems from Egypt, the Classical world, the ancient Near East, renaissance and 17th-20th century. These gems were for example used as seals, rings and amulets and they were considered to have magical powers. In this publication not only the gems themselves are presented, but also the gem engravers, the users, the re-users and gem collectors.
