Internship department collections (Egypt)
The Egyptian collection of the National Museum of Antiquities is one of the ten most important Egyptian collections in the world. The curators research the collection, create exhibitions, answer questions from the public, and collaborate with the education and PR departments for both educational products/activities and marketing. As an intern, you will actively participate in all ongoing work in the department.
What we offer
From summer 2020 (June or later, at least two days a week) we offer an internship with varied activities:
- Cataloguing museum objects and working on the collection database (including researching specific sub-collections and writing short texts).
- Archival research
- Participation in the development of touring exhibitions
- Contributing to answering questions from the public
- Write short texts for Facebook or the museum’s website
Any other activities and/or additional internship assignments will be formulated depending on the intern’s interests.
Who are you?
We are looking for a creative third-year BA, or MA / RMA or PhD student with a degree in Egyptology, archaeology, (art) history, or museology, with a demonstrable interest in at least one of the Egyptian sub-collections. In other words, you should have a clear affinity with a certain group of objects which is reflected in your studies and previous research. You feel comfortable writing texts, work independently, show initiative, and are a team player. Excellent communication skills in Dutch (spoken and written) are indispensable. Knowledge of TMS is an advantage. You also have a clear affinity with museums and well-defined research interests of your own. We prefer an availability of at least 16 hours per week for a period of 2-3 months.
Send your resume with a clear letter outlining your motivation and ideas about the proposed internship assignment to curator Dr. Lara Weiss (firstname.lastname@example.org) before the 9th of March 2020. The first interviews will take place on the 16th and 17th of March 2020.
