The Material Reception of Antiquity is a joint conference of the National Museum of Antiquities, the Material Agency Forum, and the Byvanck Chair for the History of Classical Art.

Case-studies

The 2018 conference on the Material Reception of Antiquity was part of the celebrations for the museum’s 200th anniversary. In addition, it marked the fifth anniversary of the Material Agency Forum. Conference-goers were invited to reflect on the material reception of antiquity by using a case study based on a specific object or class of objects as a point of departure to discuss the reception of objects over time.
