For Splendour & Precision, the contemporary American photographer and artist Stephen Sack made a series of sixteen photographs of gems from the collection. Sack drew inspiration from the wide variety of colours and images.
The soul of the gem
To 'lay bare the soul of the gem' he used carefully designed lighting, combinations of overlapping images, and highly enlarged prints. This made it possible for him to reveals details and colours in his work that are invisible or barely detectable to the naked eye and in traditional photography.
- Sack also created the exhibition Euro Meltdown, on display in the National Museum of Antiquities from 15 December 2015
