Mystical powers were ascribed to the Indonesian ritual dagger (kris). The kris was often worn as a sign of authority or worth. The weapon is one of the inherited items (pusaka) of a family, clan, dynasty or kingdom. These krisses were passed on from father to son.
This specimen is a typical "Buginese" kris. The Buginese live in the area of Makassar and are renowned sailors.
