The Netherlands in the Roman era

The 'Netherlands in the Roman Era' presentation recounts the early history of the Netherlands. The Romans arrived in the Netherlands at the beginning of the Christian era. None other than commander-in-chief Caesar will show you his armies and their awesome weapons. A reconstruction of an army camp and interactive computer programs featuring Roman soldiers create an impression of the atmosphere in the Roman army. You will also see some altars for Nehalennia, a native goddess worshipped in the Dutch province of Zealand, who was said to protect the fishermen. The Roman and indigenous gods often merged. From her sarcophagus, the 'Lady of Simpelveld' describes everyday life in and around a Roman house.
